Match Reports – Round 10 details

1st XI  Marcellin 3/303 defeated Donvale 189

The 1st XI boys smash 3/303 in 40 overs at a large (but very fast) Donvale ground.  Chubba (142*) and Blackie (54*) put on an unbeaten 190 run partnership in 19 overs after Deano (43), Tantsis-Hall (17) and N.Borts (34) set the ground work of the innings.  We used Eight bowlers with Jock Donnellan (3/21) and Dan Day (3/31) picking up a bag of three each ably supported by Sticks (1/19) and Blackie (1/13). Tantsis bowled well without luck, Damo Howsam picked up 1, Besaer got smashed and Borts bowled his two overs for the year.

2nd XI Marcellin – BYE (and picked up 6 points)

3rd XI Marcellin 9/191 lost to Eastern Salvation Army 5/197

For the second consecutive week we had the good fortune of winning the toss allowing the opportunity for our batsman to face the full 40 overs. Dinesh Jakar & Cam Amos opened up & put on 49 in 14 overs until Cam was out bowled for 11. Mick Lowry edged through to the keeper for 1. Michael Gough joined Dinesh & quickly added 67 runs for the 4th wicket partnership until Dinesh was dismissed for a well-compiled 89. Phil Spinella joined Goughie in the middle but couldn’t seem to find any batting form & held out for 25. The lower order tail didn’t seem to fire as we have done throughout the season so far leaving us to defend 191 on the small ground.

Patrick Sexton together with Phil kept things tight to start our defense. Both openers striking early to have the home side in trouble at 2/18 after 10 overs. ESA captain Baker then started to open his shoulders & punished everything that was short or wide. Sandeep Jakar was introduced into the attack & whilst picking up a couple of wickets was expensive in his 5 overs. Tim Rush had no answer’s either for the ESA captain who continued to hit freely on both sides of the wicket until he was eventually dismissed for 99. Dropped catch’s together with a few sloppy fielding efforts made the task of overtaking our score easier & provided the Eastern SA with an impressive win from a determined team.
