Report by Mick.
Marcellin traveled to Mont Albert for the last game of 2008 to play a one day game due to the down pour the previous week.
John won the toss & elected to bat. Dean Wedding & Joel Donnellan opened up with Joel dismissed for a duck after he decided to try & pull a short ball and was caught in the 2nd over.
The skipper promoted himself to first drop, and after surviving an early scare after spooning one to mid off that happened to get fumbled, he went on to make the teams top score of 54. Dean was next out caught behind after chasing one, Mick Dinneen (11) didn’t stay around for long, Julian Black had a good little partnership with John until he was out bowled & that brought Stewy Kemp to the crease.
After Stew called for two centres, padded down a bit of the turf he looked like he was set to go & make a big score. Bowler comes in, Stew plays a bit of French cricket & spoons one to close in fielder. His parents decided to come down & watch him play in the big time & I’ll I heard was “Poor Stew” & “How do you think he feels”. Very very funny stuff.
Spiros Beasley & Dinish Jakhar put on a fantastic partnership of 50 until Marcellin had faced there 40 overs & made a great score of 153 on a rather big ground that did not have many boundaries scored.
Simon Fleming, back in the side after a game in the 2nds, opened Marcellins bowling attack with Joel Donnellan from the other end.
Sticksey bowled a fantastic line & length & picked up his first wicket when the Mont Albert opener smashed one to Joel in the gully. Joel has dived & taken the best catch so far of the season in his left hand. Later he put down the easiest catch of all time after one was spooned to him.
Julian Black bowled pretty well to bowl 10 straight. With 5 overs to go Mont Albert required 30 odd runs which left John Dinneen & Joel to bowl them out. John bowled well & finished with 2/31 off his 10 overs.
The last over Mont Albert required 11 runs and Joel managed to keep it to 7. He also bowled well & Marcellin won by 3 runs.
After the game the skipper mentioned that we had a great first half of the season with being undefeated & in 2nd position. ( Mulgrave won outright against Richmond Union. ) With only four games remaining after the Christmas break, Marcellin 1sts are in a strong position to play finals for the first time in 6 years. Still a lot of cricket & hard work to do until then, so see you at training when we commence on Tuesday 6th January with selection on Thursday 8th January.
Next game is a two day match at East Doncaster on January 10th.
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all.
