Cheered home by a healthy contingent of MOCCC players and supporters, the fourths achieved a rousing victory in Saturday’s LOC4 Grand Final. Our opponent, Knox Churches, had won all 14 of their completed matches this season, including two against us, so it was in hope more than expectation that we trekked to Howard Dawson Reserve in Glen Iris.
Man of the match Rob Galati completed a fantastic finals series with a blazing 34, getting the innings away to a great start. Despite a batting collapse (~1/70 at drinks), our tally of 141 proved more than competitive.
We were miserly with the ball and picked up wickets regularly, allowing captain Chris Wall to hold back his strike bowlers until Knox were forced to push the pedal. Safe hands in the field was also a critical factor.
12th man Will Lay was called upon to rustle up a set of whites following mid-over injuries to Luke Gregory and Jeff Crimmins, and fittingly took the final catch of the day. Almost immediately the boys formed a tight circle and belted out a raucous rendition of the club song, and talk of a ‘three-peat’ could be heard in the post-match afterglow…
