Marcellin Wins Round 1 20-20 game

The Marcellin boys entered a site in the inaugural ECA 20-20 knockout competition and made it safely into the second round.  We played one of the top synthetic teams in Deepdene Uniting at Marcellin No 1 oval on Tuesday evening.

The Marcellin boys started well with the bat and were travelling along at 7 an over after 10 overs with only the loss of one wicket.  We fell into a bit of whole as Deepdene continued to bowl a very good line and length.  We finished the innings with several runouts and finished at 7/122 with Nic Borts opening and making a fine 50 odd and Chubba getting 30.  The Deepdene Utg boys were probably the best fielding side we had come across in several years (including Dunstan Shield) and they appreciated the heavenly Number One outfield.

We started well with sticks claiming two early wickets.  Frenchy bowled well along with Beaser and Chubba.  Sandeep was introduced into the attack around the 10 over mark and really slowed the game and picked up an LBW with a quicker ball.  Julian and Chubba bowled out the game with Deepdene staying on the required run rate for the most of the game.  One ball to go with 6 to win and 5 to draw and Blackie bowls a no-ball which is called by the opposition batsman at the non strikers end.  To our amazement, the umpire calls a no ball once the ball has gone dead and Marcellin is starting their winning celebrations.  Julian now needs to bowl one more ball with Deepdene needing only 4 to tie and force a bowl off. Thank goodness he bowls a yorker and wins the game.

A really enjoyable game played in good spirit against a very good opposition.

We will field a stronger side for the 2nd Round match with four key 1st XI players available to play against Donvale on the 9th December for Round 2.
